چکیده

The emergence of nosocomial infections caused by CoNS has led clinicians and researchers to reconsider the role methicillin-resistant (MR-CoNS) as important agents infections. This study was conducted on clinical isolates MR-CoNS obtained from inpatients in Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA) International Islamic University Malaysia Medical Center (IIUM-MC) determine their antimicrobial resistance profile. were cultured samples blood, tissues, swabs. Forty (33 4 3 swabs) collected through venepuncture, biopsy, swabbing techniques respectively, processed conventional cultural, biochemical methods susceptibility tests. Methicillin- vancomycin-resistance profile performed E-test broth micro-dilution methods. Of 40 isolates, 38 identified be (MIC ³ 0.5 µg/mL). remaining 2 considered susceptible methicillin ≤ 0.25). All found vancomycin (MIC=1-4 also tested for phenotypic using Kirby Bauer disc diffusion method. Resistance rates linezolid, erythromycin, ciprofloxacin, ceftaroline 100%. trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, teicoplanin, clindamycin 82.5%, 92.5%, 97.5% respectively. Thus, all revealed multi-drug profiles more than antimicrobials; highest being 9 antibiotics, except one isolate swab. points toward need periodic antibiogram surveillance they are cause difficult treat

Clinical Characteristics of Methicillin-resistant Coagulase-negative Staphylococcal Bacteremia in a Tertiary Hospital

Objective Coagulase-negative staphylococci are among the most frequently isolated microorganisms in blood cultures. The aim of this study was to assess [1] the clinical characteristics of methicillin-resistant, coagulase-negative staphylococci bacteremia and [2] the susceptibility of the isolated bacteria to glycopeptides. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 70 patients f...

comparison of two pcr methods in determining the methicillin-resistant gene in coagulase-negative staphylococci

aims: it is very important to detect the coagulase-negative staphylococci, which produce the hospital infections. being one of the most expensive and time-consuming stages before the polymerase chain reaction (pcr), dna extraction is one of the primary stages of pcr. then, it should be noticed that the elimination of the stage might save time and costs. the aim of this study was to compare two ...

Use of Daptomycin for the Treatment of Methicillin-Resistant Coagulase-Negative Staphylococcal Ventriculitis

Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) are the main pathogens causing hospital-acquired external-ventricular-drain- (EVD-) and lumbar-drain- (LD-) associated meningitis and ventriculitis. The treatment of these infections can be challenging and may require combination of intraventricular and intravenous administration of antibiotics. Limited animal data demonstrate rapid daptomycin bactericida...

A Novel MSCRAMM Subfamily in Coagulase Negative Staphylococcal Species

Coagulase negative staphylococci (CoNS) are important opportunistic pathogens. Staphylococcus epidermidis, a coagulase negative staphylococcus, is the third leading cause of nosocomial infections in the US. Surface proteins like Microbial Surface Components Recognizing Adhesive Matrix Molecules (MSCRAMMs) are major virulence factors of pathogenic gram positive bacteria. Here, we identified a ne...

Methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci in healthy dogs

The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of coagulase-negative staphylococci in healthy dogs and to determine whether methicillin-resistant staphylococci expressed the mecA gene. Nasal and rectal swab samples were taken from 50 clinically healthy dogs. The prevalence of coagulase-negative staphylococci was evaluated according to phenotypic properties. The agar diffusion method...
